Overnight in Rhodes: Your Guide to an Evening and Morning on the Island.

Rhodes, Rhodes Island, Rhodes Greece, Greece, Greek Island, Greek holiday

Welcome to Rhodes, a place steeped in history and rich in culture. We spent a night here on route home after spending 10 days on the Island of Symi. With our flight leaving at 13:00 the following day, we thought we’d find some gems in Rhodes, so that when you visit, you know exactly where to start. The charming Old Town with its narrow cobbled streets, imposing medieval architecture, and vibrant local markets welcomes you the moment you step through the ancient walls dating back to the 14th century.

We hope you love this one night guide to Rhodes.

Where to Stay

Stepping off the ferry or heading for one and you have a night in Rhodes? There are a number of accommodation options for you, suiting a range of budgets. We would recommend you look to stay within the Old Town, for an authentic experience and access to the most sensational dinner and breakfast spots. This is also a very easy walk to or from the various ferries departing from the harbour.

What to do

  1. Visit the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes

  2. Explore the Streets & street markets - be aware that you’ll be approached by many wanting to entice you into their store.

  3. Wander around the Archaeological Museum of Rhodes

  4. Walk the Old Town walls (if you have the time)

  5. Enjoy panoramic views from the Clock Tower of Rhodes

A top tip, when exploring any city, we highly recommend getting up & out early. You’ll generally have the city to yourself, not having to contend with the crowds, which also allows you to get some unique perspectives that you may miss when exploring at busier times of day.

Where to eat

We were truly impressed with the food experience that we had in Rhodes. We were fortunate to be there out of season, and yet it was still busy, so like always, we recommend booking ahead of time to ensure you get a table.

Dinner

We will start this section with the most sensational dinner experience. This came HIGHLY recommended to us from some people we met while in Symi and it sure lived up to its reputation. Nestled in a quiet alley way, you will find Marco Polo. This was a real spoil of the night, as it is on the upper side of the budget, but we cannot rave enough about it. Situated in an open air terrace, we were impressed with the level of service, the standard of food and of course the sensational Greek Rose wine. A delightful night to spoil someone special.

Breakfast

The following morning we stumbled across Decan Bistro, where we had a delicious breakfast. From the fresh fruit bowl to the most amazing omelette to the egg and bacon, it truly was sensational. Made with care, using fresh ingredients, we were very happy customers. Elevated breakfast, done so well!

Coffee

An easy 10-15 minute walk from the old town, we discovered Monk Coffee. As coffee appreciators, we truly love finding coffe spots serving coffee with passion, the kind of place that understands “a short americano” and delivers a short americano (if you know, you know). Whether you’re a coffee snob or not, we would highly recommend making the effort to go for a cup or two. These guys put their heart and soul into roasting their beans and pouring the most delicious coffee.

Ice Cream

No summer holiday is complete without an ice cream, and we found a goodie! We found Davinci Gelato. Located on the main drag of the Old Town, you cannot miss it, and it is well worth trying.

As this guide to Rhodes comes to a close, it's clear that this enchanting island offers far more than one realises. From the cobbled streets of the medieval Old Town, steeped in history and lore, to the serene beauty of its rugged coastline, Rhodes captivates with its rich tapestry of culture, natural wonders, and warm hospitality. Whether you find yourself exploring ancient ruins, savouring local delicacies, or simply basking in the island's timeless charm, Rhodes promises an unforgettable experience. As you depart, you carry with you not just memories of stunning landscapes and vibrant traditions, but also a piece of the island's enduring spirit, beckoning you to return and discover even more of its hidden treasures.
