Dubrovnik: A Journey Through Croatia's Gem on the Adriatic.

Dubrovnik, Croatia, Adriatic

Lit up by the stunning and crystal-clear turquoise waters of the Adriatic Sea, Dubrovnik undeniably stands out as a must-visit destination for travelers seeking beauty and history. The Old Town's limestone cobble streets and iconic orange rooftops create an enchanting atmosphere that feels almost like stepping into a picturesque storybook. Wandering through the town's charming streets reveals a treasure trove of churches, historic squares, and countless inviting terraces, making every corner a delightful surprise. Moreover, a leisurely stroll down the Stradun opens doors to an array of local produce, freshly caught seafood, and an impressive selection of delightful Croatian wines, adding a deliciously authentic touch to the whole experience.

Dubrovnik is known for its Ancient City walls, dating back to the 9th Century, they stretch a staggering 1940 meters. We suggest grabbing yourself a coffee from Cogito Coffee Shop, conveniently located near one of the entrances to the Historic wall tour. We highly recommend beating the crowds by going first thing while it’s quiet, as the walk offers spectacular birds eye views of the Old Town, the Adriatic sea and surrounding natural beauty.

Where to Stay

During our time in Dubronik, we opted to stay in this amazing self catering unit within the old City walls. We could not have asked for a better place to have stayed for our week in Croatia.

After a leisurely stroll along the city walls, we were eager to dive into some delicious local Croatian food. We meandered through the charmingly narrow passageways of the old town, where a plethora of cozy restaurants beckoned. From mouthwatering fish specialties and squid ink risotto to pasta laden with truffles, various cheeses, and hearty traditional dishes featuring octopus, chard, and Dalmatian spices – there's a feast for every craving! Our ultimate culinary winners were the scrumptious octopus salad and the rich squid ink risotto at Portun. As night fell, these same charming passageways transformed into a dreamy, candlelit setting perfect for a romantic dinner.

Exploring beyond the City Walls

Highlights from Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik cable car - An absolute must

A picturesque bird’s eye view over the city on the way to the top of Mount Srd, 405 metres above sea level. A photographers dream for spectacular panoramas for up to 37 miles of the Dalmatian coast. When reaching the top head over to the Panorama Restaurant for the best sunset view. Make sure to reserve a table outside along the edge for drinks, with breathtaking views.

Scenic walk to the Forest Park Velika and Mala Petka

The lovely lady at the Cognitio Coffee shop gave us some local tips - this was one! We caught the number 4 bus to Hotel Dubrovnik Palace from the Old town. We strolled through the forest taken in the breathtaking coast line views. We made our way down to the Lapad beach front were we found some goggles at a local beach shop. We then took a slow walk along the Lapad Promenade stopping off at the stairs that took us straight into the turquoise water.

Cave More Bar

We visited Dubrovnik early October - off season. The days were still warm, we were lucky to experience a less crowded Dubrovnik. The Cave Bar More was the perfect spot to stop off for a glass of wine and beer, while listening to the ocean gently washing the rocks below.

Restaurant Zoe

Continue along the Lapad Promenade, we found Restaurant Zoe. The most amazing spot to lounge around on the rocks sipping on cocktails and jumping off the rocks into the ocean. The Mojitos were delicious and well priced!

Cavtat - A must do Day trip

Cavtat is one of Croatia’s charming towns, full of culture, new and old architecture, and a more laid back attitude. The harbour area is a delight. Palms and cypress line the harbour walkway. Relax and enjoy a lunch with cocktails along the quayside. We caught the number 10 bus from Dubrovnik Bus Terminal to Catvat and for the more scenic journey back to Durbronik we got on a small boat from the harbour.
